Your Paragraph - Greek Celebrity

Write a well organized (Clear Topic Sentence!) paragraph summarizing some of the information that you found out about the person from Ancient Greece that you are researching.  Check for spelling and grammar.

  1. Herodotus is a historian in Ancient Greece. He wrote a book called the Histories. This book then got split into 9 books about the four kings. Cyrus (book 1) Cambyses (book 2 and part of book 3) Darius (the rest of book 3 and book 4,5 and 6) and Xerxes (book 7, 8 and 9) were these kings. Everyone admired his righting. Homer was the one who inspired Herodotus to start righting books. Herodotus visited many places ,so no one knows where Herodotus was born or raised.

  2. Aristotle was famous for many things, and did just about anything. Aristotle was born in Stageira, Chalcidice in 384 B.C.. His teacher was Plato. Aristotle’s father, Nicomachus, was a personal physician to King Amyntas of Macedon. He wrote many books on physics, metaphysics, poetry, theater, music, logic, rhetoric, linguistics, politics, government, ethics, biology, zoology. As you can see he was a very smart man. When Plato died Aristotle did not take over his school, instead he started his own school called Lyceum. When he returned to Macedonia in 388 B.C. to tutor Alexander the Great. When Alexander conquered Athens Aristotle went back to Athens. When Alexander died the Athenians rebelled against their Macedonian rulers. To avoid being killed because he was a Macedonian he went to Euboea in 322 B.C.. But soon after he got there he died.

  3. Aspasia was considered one of the most beautiful an educated women in her era, but was accused of being a hataera. Aspasia was a Milesian women, which is now part of Turkey. She was born in the Ionian city of Miletus. She was born in 470 B.C. She spent most of her life in Athens. She met a man named Pericles, and he divorced his wife for Aspasia. She supported woman’s rights, and that men and woman should be treated equally. Pericles agreed. She was accused of being a hatarea, which is a woman or group of woman who entertain wealthy men at dinner parties. Soon there came a plague, and Pericles died. So Aspasia married a man named Lysicles. She was very wealthy and was a very important woman in Athens.

  4. Herodotus was a famous historian who everybody thought was pretty much a celebrity because everybody honored him greatly. Herodotus was born in Turkey in a Greek town in 485 B.C. He learned many things from many different people. Some of those things were not true, that’s why he became known as the “ Father of Lies. “ His first book that he made was The Histories. He first got known when he lived in Ionia. He was very wealthy because of his famous books and he grew up wealthy because of his family was rich. Herodotus died in 425 B.C of the plague in Athens. Herodotus was a very famous historian who we still learn stuff from today.

    Aspasia was a women who had a huge companion with Pericles,who was said to kiss Aspasia every day. She was the most famous women of Ancient Athens.She was mixed with some of the smartest minds of her generation. Born on the Ionian colony
    of Miletus on the coast of Asian Minor. Aspaisa immigrated to Athens 450 B.C. and was there as a resident. She was alway an important Athenian in her own right.

  6. Hippocrates
    Hippocrates was known as the founder of medicine. He was born in 460 B.C. on the island of Cos,Greece. Cos,Greece was located south of Sporades next and next to the gulf 40 kilo. or 2.5 miles from the coast of Turkey. Hippocrates was the son of Heracliesdes and Praxithea. He was born in such a wealthy family that he had such good education to become a docter. When he grew older he became a phsistionist. He healed the king of Macedonia from tuberculosis. All this came education came from his grandfather who studied medicine before him. The grandfather died sadly at the age 85. Hippocrates carried on his studies and studied medicine himself. Then after all his amazing deeds he died in 370 B.C. in Larissa,Greece. HIppocrates is know known as history’s most famous physician.

  7. Aeschylus was famous in ancient greece because of the plays he wrote one of his most famous ones is Oresteia The Oresteia. He was born in 525 BC, he died in 456 BC. He lived in Athens he had two sons named Euphorion and Euaeon, he also had a wife. His father was Euphorion. He wrote the first three greek tradgities. He wrote between 60 and 90 plays but, only 6 still exist. He was born in Eleusis which is a day's walk from Athens. He was called the father of Greek Tragedies.

  8. Aristotle was a philosopher who was interested in physics, metaphysics, poetry, theatre, music, rhetoric, politics, government, ethics, biology and zoology. He was one of the most important founding figures in western philosophy, because he was a polymath, which means he was knowledgeable in many different things. He went to a school and his teacher was Plato, who was an author and philosopher also. I learned that Aristotle wrote 150 philosophical writings about all the topics he was interested in. He lived from 384BC to 322BC.

  9. 2/7/12 Phidias
    Phidias was a great sculptor from Athens from 490-430 BC. His most famouse pieces were Zeus at Olympia and Athena at the Parthenon. Zeus was 42 feet tall and Athena was 38 feet tall. the way we know of him now is from ancient writers. No originals of his work still exist but there are coppys in Greece. He directed and supervised with building the Parthenon and mostly made it out of lime stone.

  10. In my opinion my #1 person who influences time is Christopher Columbus. He is the one who led the Europeans in to North America. In my opinion he committed genocide. He’s very influential to the history by allowing us to live where we are. The Pilgrims would of never been created. He’s the most important influential idle. He was not the successor but the creator of our land.

    Aeschylus was the first of the three Ancient Greek Tritans.
    He lived in Athens and he wrote Oresteia to Oresteia. He was born in 525 B.C. and died in 456 BC. His mother was mother earth, and His father was Euphorion. He ot married and had two sons. His grandfather was Pelops. He was part god and had been a human. Aeschylus had been in war, and was 69 when he died. He died from an eagle dropping and a tortoise.

  12. Socrates was a celebrity in ancient Greece. His parents were Sophroniscus and Phaenarete.As a child Socrates studied, played music, took literature, geometry, and gymnastics but he had a very big interest in scientific theories. When he grew up he was a teacher and he would decline his to accept his payments. Many of his students were very loyal to him but there parents were not very found of his infulence.He was charged for doing many things one of them was for interfearing with Athen’s religion. He died by being forced to drink a poison.

  13. hades is very important to Greeks because he was the guard of the dead and owner of great responsibility and power. he was also hated by many because of him being evil. he wasn’t always evil though he was good intil Zeus tricked him and sent him to live in the underworld. Because of this there is and will always be a great hatedread between them.

No body knows who trained him as an artist. There are no orginals of his artwork. when he died he was sixty years old. he was born in 490 bc and died 430

  15. Socrates was one of the greatest philosophers of all time. He was a big influence on ancient Athens and was credited as one of the founders of Athens. Socrates created strategies for the Socratic method of teaching where one went through stages of questions from a hypothesis on to find the truth. Socrates was a true philosopher who would debate with anyone. In 399 BC, Socrates was sentenced to death for corrupting the minds of youth and not believing in the gods of the state. He accepted his fate because he felt that a true philosopher should not be afraid to die.

  16. Hippocrates is considered the founder of medicine. He is the first documented chest surgeon. He was known for taking special notes, so he was able to figure out the disease came from genes, environment, and lifestyle. He thought that medicine was meant to restore balance between the four humors. Without Hippocrates, medicine would not be what it is today.
