Rivals with a Common Enemy

Have you and a rival (or even a friend) ever put aside your differences to work for a common cause or goal?  This is exactly what the Spartans and the Athenians had to do to fight the Persians.  For this blog post, in a 5-7 sentence paragraph, write about a personal experience where you have had to put aside your differences with a rival (like on a sports team) OR...you can do some internet history research and find another instance in history where rival people or countries had to come together against a common enemy.

  1. My mom and I have a lot of differences, she likes being really clean and I could careless about everything being spotless. But we work really well together as a team. I work pretty well just about everyone. But this one time right after my dog Abby died Lulu was really sad about her death. But then a few months later her daughter Molly died. It was really sad. My mom and I had to cheer Lulu so that she wouldn’t feel really sad anymore. In the end we just got two more dogs to replace the ones that died, but we will never forget Abby and Molly.

  2. My sister and I are very different because she loves to shop and loves makeup and clothes. I don’t love all those things either, and i like things to be more organized but she likes it not so organized. But we both like sports the beach being with are friends and going to Nantucket and watching movies. Once on team building day we were together and we had to work together and we did really well. But we still disagree a lot of things.

  3. This year when I was Clara for the third year in a row, my friend Melissa was jealous that I got the role again. But I helped her not be jealous any more by saying that it wasn't my fault and I felt sorry for her that she hadn't gotten the role again, but I was also happy that I got the role again .

  4. Once I played my arch rival in basketball in a game we would always split wins.
In one camp thoe a lot of their players went so some were on my team and we had to win the championship. In the game we won cause we worked together and won were still rivals but remember camp.

  5. One story that I learned from the internet was that Abraham Lincoln was running for president and he won. The people he was running against were his rivals.William Seward, Salmon Chase and Edward Bates. He invited them to be part of his cabinet and did not just make them go home and leave. Abraham Lincoln chose to include his rivals.

    1. Nice job Griff! I was just reading about a book called "Team of Rivals" about this very thing. There is actually a movie coming out next summer based on the book, and it is filmed by Steven Spielberg (ET, Schindler's List, Jaws). Good research.

  6. There is someone on my swim team named Miranda Cully and she used to be in our class. We have a lot of differences and we dont get along well and when it comes to a swim meet we work together. We put our differences a side and cheer each other on.

  7. Once my sister Annette, and my brother George plus me got cute little soccer balls. For some reason George got mad at Annette. We still do not now why. So sometime later we saw that Annette’s little soccer ball had been drawn on and we knew it was George. About a mouth later we saw that Georges soccer ball had been drawn on too. Annette got revenge on George.

  8. Rivals, rivals. A despised enemy. I have a lot of rivals like the giants, Cowboys, Middleberry, Saratoga. Revenge could happen to a rival but you can lose. You hate them, there anoying. My definition of a rival is a person you hate & you've played a lot of times.

  9. When me and Jillian got our dog, we were fighting because we wanted the dog to ourselves. But we had different techniques to train the dog. We had to put that aside an work together.

When I played AAU many of my team mates played football on the other Vermont team.

  11. One time Emily C and I were in a fight and weren’t talking to each other that much and we got assigned to work together. At first we were both not happy about it at all and kept getting mad and frustrated. Then finally we figured out that we needed work together and it would go much smoother if we weren’t fighting. So we made up and got the assignment done and we did well on it. I see it as we were mad but we had to not think about that and just focus on the task. The assignment helped us make up.

  12. My cousin and I swim on the same team. We don’t always get along. But at meets we have to cheer each other on and work together. We congratulate each other after a race, but when we go to pratice the next day we still don’t get along. We always try our best to work together but it isn’t always the easiest. We try to put aside our differences and work together.

    1. Emily, I like yours because you blogged a good example of how you and your rival or friend have to put aside each other's differences and work together. Nice Job!

  13. I had to set aside my problems with one of my best friends now. We were partners and it had a big prize if you won so I really really wanted to win it. My friend was serious about it to so we both worked hard together and we never fought threw the hole thing. At the end we got the big prize and we became very good friends.

    2. I really liked it because you put a lot of detail into your description. I also like how you and your friend both wanted to win the big prize so you worked together and you got the prize.
