What is an American?

The individual Greek city-states finally came together as a Nation to fight the Persians.  The result was a Golden Age in Greece and a unique Greek identity.  So, what about your identity?  What does it mean to be an American?  What do you think it means to other people when you say you are from Vermont?  What is different about being a Vermonter versus being an American?  Write a well thought out paragraph where you consider the above questions.  Talk to friends and family, but make sure you write down what YOU think and believe.  Remember, there are no wrong answers on a blog post.

  1. If you say your from Vermont it means your part of the 50 states of America and your free like everyone else in those 50 states. This also means your where there is snowy winters and every thing is different about the state you live in than other states but you have to remember you all have the same rights.

  2. I think being an American is a privelage because when you are an American you are free, you get to vote, you get to go to school and receive a great education, you get to spend time with your family, and you can travel to other places, unlike in North Korea. When you are a Vermonter you get to ski, you get to swim, you get to ride your bike, you get to hike, you get to go to the beach. When you say you are from Vermont it shows others that Vermont is a great place and that you are proud of to be a Vermonter, not ashamed. For me I really don’t see any differences between being a Vermonter and being an American because both are free living.

  3. I think that Vermonters speak English, like Americans, and the Vermonters live in a state with a lot of snow in the winter. I think that Americans are a little bit the same way, but in some states it does not snow as much as in other states. Vermont is the state that is famous for making syrup and does not have any big cities, but more country living.

  4. Being a Vermonter means you're free. I think that Vermont is a very healthy, down-to-earth place. Vermont is famous for making its maple syrup and the view and mountains are beautiful. Vermont is incomparable to any other state in the USA.

  5. I think Vermont means a “beautiful state”. Vermont is different from any other state. It does not have the trash on the side walk, it has beautiful mountains, and in the fall, all the leaves turn yellow, red, orange and brown. When you are a Vermonter you experience all these things. I think to be a Vermonter you have to live here to see what Vermont is like. People call America the melting pot because it has so many people from other countries. I also heard that America is the land of opportunities. People come here to get jobs and to be free from there countries government. I think to be a American you have to be cool with all different kinds people and things. Vermont and America are different because Vermont is part of America but we are also one country!

  6. Being an American means that you are free. it also means that you get to choose what to do like voting or not. It also means you are part of democracy. Democracy is when you vote for your leader. Being an American is lucky.Being a Vermonter is lucky to. One Vermonter would be Calvin Coolidge our former U.S president. If you are a Vermonter you probably ski or snowboard. A Vermonter is used to a lot of mountains. Those mountain are called the green mountains. Being a Vermonter is lucky.

  7. I think that being a American means being free. I also think that being a American means voting. The things that I think as we the people of America have democracy which means that the majority of people get to pick what he or she wants to do. Vermonters work together to solve problems. Example... When hurricane Irene happened, we worked together and helped the people who's houses got washed away. Vermont is the most liberal states in the country. Example... Vermont has a program for Heath care for both mothers and children. I like to be a Vermonter because when the snow falls on the ground you can play in it and build a snowman or other things like a sculpture.

I love being a Vermonter because you can play in the sparkling white snow when it falls on the ground. You can also rake the colorful leaves into a pile and jump into it. You can see the colorful leaves fall from the trees onto the ground. You can see the beauty in summer and spring because it is do warm and you can see the trees blossoming in spring and feel the cool water of a swimming pool in summer and have fun at the beach.

  8. I think being an amarican means you live in the 50 states and you're free.it also means you have rights to vote.I think being amarican is a privilege because in other contrys it's not a democracy so you can't make you're own choices.

I like being a vermonter because you can do stuff that people in other states can't do.an example is someone in a big city can't walk in a quiet forest they can only go to a park.

  9. I think that being an American means that you have the freedom to do what u want. If If u don’t have freedom you are not an American. But to be a true Vermonter you have to have eight generations of family born in Vermont. That is not true for me. My mom was born in Minnesota, and my dad was born in Texas. But me and my sister Lulu were both born in Vermont. I think of my self as a Vermonter. My definition of a Vermonter is if you were born in Vermont and grew up there then you are a true Vermonter. I don’t even think I would really go anywhere. My family comes from everywhere. But a being a Vermonter is if you are a person that has lived in Vermont and grew up here then you are a Vermonter.

  10. Vermont is a free country. To be a Vermonter means to be healthy and to like sports or the arts. To be a Vermonter u need to believe in your self. Vermont is one of few beautiful American states with its white winters and lushes green springs and summers and our yellow, orange, and red falls.

  11. One thing I like about Vermont is the seasons. All the colors for each season. To be a Vermonter you are free. Why you are free is because you are also an American citizen. America makes sure everyone is free to vote and so on. This is special to be an American because you have freedom other countries don't. There are strict rules in religions like the girls have to cover up everything but there eyes. America is a special place just like Vermont.

  12. You should be proud to be an American. An American gets to be free unlike some other countries. We get freedom of speech. We are able to travel. We have a strong army. Americans get to get a good education. We are aloud to speak in different languages. We have the choice to go to college.Being a Vermonter is a good thing you have many privileges. that other states don’t have. You can go skiing and hiking especially in the fall when the leaves are turning colors. If you say you are a Vermonter it tells people that Vermont is a great place to live. Many tourestes come to Vermont during the fall to see the trees change. They also come in the winter for skiing. There isn’t a big difference between being an American and a Vermonter but their are some differences and no matter where you live as in American you are free.

  14. America V VT. Being an American is a special thing. America Is all in for the freedom & education. I like freedom of speech but America is a united country. Are country is multi cultural. We have choice and freedoms. democracy is great and our unity is strong. Everyone is treated the same. America is my home. Vermont is the same in many ways but different. Vt means a lot to me. In VT I can’t stand the Bruins & that is part of it. The Golden Dome is important & wilderness is nice & I can’t explain VT. VT is a place that is my home & VT is just... different.

  16. The Persians Wars in the late 5th century BC had a tremenouds impact on Ancient greece because It taught them unity because it made stronger and not weaker. The Atheniens and spartans teamed up together so that made the persians never want to fight with them again
And it taught them the greeks to not invade another country/city state again.
